Evaluation of critical value and urgent sample notification at clinical biochemistry laboratory in a tertiary care hospital

Background: Critical value and urgent sample result notification is widely accepted in the diagnostic fraternity as an important factor, it may affect patient care safety. Timely release of these test per individual laboratory protocol becomes internal part quality reporting system. The present study was aimed at evaluating effective implementation existing clinical (UCN) biochemistry tertiary hospital turnaround time for samples critical results listed under UCN laboratory.Methods: A prospective, observational conducted a hospital. Descriptive statistics calculated all data by Mann-Whitney Wilcoxon test.Results: Majority were informed to personnel laboratory. Out 4687 results, 25.41% directly ward through telephonic communication.
